Dr. James Hirsch of Rockefeller
University counting white cells
as
part
of his research into
how they
attack and kill germs.
His associate,
Dr. Zanvil Cohen,
solved the
problems
of how to
separate parts
of
the white cells
for chemical analysis.
Through the
microscope, Dr. Hirsch filmed
white
cells engulfing and destroying germs.
He developed a theory explaining how they
were able to do it by a process known as fusion,
without destroying themselves.
His theory was confirmed through photographs taken by
the electron microscope of Dr. Dorothea Zucker-Franklin. |
